Group I is the second design group in Series Y, and the last Group in Class I proper. The die engraver experiments with the style of the chariot driver after a few dies, and he comes up with some rather odd creations before settling on a style that he allows to be repeated through the end of this group and beyond. There is more of a tendancy to use a curl and leaf design in front of the pony than a quadrilateral banner as was the case in Group H, but both motifs are used in both groups, and cannot be used to identify the group. The meanings of the curl and leaf motif and the quadrilateral banner are essentially the same so one can substitute for the other, or sometimes they are depicted together.
